God, this next page has been absolutely killing me for some reason. I've been working on it all day and I feel like I'm getting nowhere, lol. Although, I'm really happy with how this panel came out, so I thought I'd share it at (close to) full size, since it'll be shrunk down to less than 50% of this size when the final page gets posted.

It's worth noting that the greenery in the background does not look nearly as cool when you're zoomed way in like this, har har har.

Think of it as a little preview, I suppose, if you see it before the page goes up at some point tomorrow. :D

Total Time: GOD I DON'T EVEN KNOW. TOO LONG FOR ONE PANEL .
Tools: Tablet, Photoshop
Finished?: Yes :|

Rambling
We sell this chair, at OfficeHell. You may have seen it. It's basically just a stiff, armless, curved block of fabric that they call a "gaming chair", mostly because it has speakers in the sides of it. Presumably you're supposed to plug your TV or whatever into the chair and have stereo music playing around your butt while you're gaming. I don't really get it, but that's beside the point.

The point is, that they currently have the floor model of this chair parked directly next to the copy center, which, as you may have gathered, is where I work. And of course, what good is a floor model, if it's not functioning so that people can see how it works? Anyway, normally they have it on the local pop radio station, which is not great, but tolerable. However, of course, in light of the season, they have been blasting Christmas carols from it. Non stop. For the last two weeks, and presumably, for the next four weeks as well.

We had no customers whatsoever tonight, so, in an attempt to entertain myself, I kept a checklist. Over the course of a six hour shift, various, horrible remixes of the following songs came up:

Frosty the Snowman: 9 times
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: 5 times
Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree: 3 times
Jingle Bells: 10 times
We Wish You A Merry Christmas: 6 times
Do You Hear What I Hear: 13 times ( !!!! )
"New" Christmas Carols That Nobody Knows The Words To By Various Pop Singers: 8 times

...God, I hate Christmas music.

Feeling: groggy

Ahahaha! I mock you... but only because I share your pain. I work at Starbucks. They had their Christmas rollout on Nov 7. Nov. 7!! Waaay too early for Christmas carols!

Seriously, it's just getting obnoxious now how early they're starting with the Christmas stuff. It used to be after Thanksgiving, which was still too early, but tolerable. I'm waiting for the year they name Halloween as the official start of the holiday season. That might just be the year I finally throw myself out a window. :[

Hahaha, YOU POOR THING.
Christmas music is horrible, sometimes. Especially for those in retail. It makes us all bitter and angry. ]:

It was so bad when I had an 8-hour shift and not only did our store have Christmas music, but so did the mall outside.
sk_doodles: Bloody Shinji[info]sk_doodles on November 28th, 2007 05:46 am (UTC)
Hah! Yeah, that makes me even happier that I don't work in an indoor mall, I'm not sure I could deal with the Christmas music following me around everywhere I went.

I think it's pretty safe to say that out of all my friends, the ones who still like Christmas music have never worked in retail.
Trianna: Why?[info]triannamaxwell on November 28th, 2007 06:09 am (UTC)
I just don't get the early Xmas season. Sure, consumerism. But I don't think I've ever talked to someone who likes to see a Christmas tree up the day after Halloween. So why is this still the case?
sk_doodles: Bloody Akihiko[info]sk_doodles on November 28th, 2007 02:21 pm (UTC)
I honestly have no idea. My family runs a Christmas tree business back in my home state, and we never sold a single tree before the day after Thanksgiving. Nobody wants to hear about Christmas before that, except for corporate retail.

I say, it's time to revolt! Who's with me?! *waves pitchfork*

Agreed! ::starts singing Beauty and the Beast Mob Song::

I can sympathize, I worked in a Hallmark store for two years and had to deal with the same darn CDs over and over again... I can't stand to hear 99% of any sort of Christmas music anymore.

I know someone with a chair like that >.> There's apparently a newer model that has a rumble feature too, I hear... which is even more scary.
sk_doodles: M'aar Duh[info]sk_doodles on November 28th, 2007 02:23 pm (UTC)
Oh god, I can only imagine Hallmark would be even worse. It's like.. Christmas year-round in those stores, haha. :[

And.. seriously? Now I'm going to have to look to see if our chair has a rumble feature. That's walking that fine line between being super creepy and super awesome.
Kyr[info]kyrraven on November 28th, 2007 09:12 am (UTC)
Presumably you're supposed to plug your TV or whatever into the chair and have stereo music playing around your butt while you're gaming.

LOL! Because *everyone* needs music blaring out of their arse!

As for Christmas/holiday music... I hate contemporary stuff and re-mixes with a passion. I'm getting to the point where only the really old (like 1800s or before) stuff even appeals to me at all, and only if it hasn't been re-mixed or covered by some pop star with less clothing on than a swimsuit model. Ugh! Hearing it over and over and over just makes it worse, so I'm glad I don't work retail or have a radio in my car right now.
sk_doodles: M'aar Duh[info]sk_doodles on November 28th, 2007 02:30 pm (UTC)
I do like some of the instrumental Christmas music, possibly only because it's easier to tune out than the horrible, grating remixes of Frosty the Snowman. There's actually a radio station around here that plays Christmas music all year round. I just don't understand it.
Kyr[info]kyrraven on November 29th, 2007 02:27 am (UTC)
Year round Christmas music? Weird.

Instrumental is good... much harder to destroy the song that way. ^_^ I like techno remixes of Christmas *music* actually... I just really, really hate a lot of the newer songs and happy-pop-singer mixes of the older ones.

And then of course, there is practically a lynch mob out to get Neil Diamond... because he's Jewish and making a massive profit doing covers of Christmas carols. I heard about it last year from someone who was royally offended that he was singing about a holiday he doesn't observe.
snifbask[info]snifbask on November 28th, 2007 12:22 pm (UTC)
Yhh.. Christmas carols are something... intolerable... Except for Futurama's version on Santa Claus is coming to town (or whatever it is in English). I'm glad that they haven't started playing them yet here in Finland. Reading this kind of horrible work experiences just makes me happier that I'm a student...
sk_doodles: House - o rly?[info]sk_doodles on November 28th, 2007 02:32 pm (UTC)
But you haven't really lived until you've heard all 37 remixes of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!
snifbask[info]snifbask on November 28th, 2007 02:39 pm (UTC)
You also haven't really lived until you've put molten metal in your eyes...:D

I really like that panel and can't wait to read the whole page. The looks on their faces are fabulous.

The stereo in your butt thing is to essentially have a rumblepack for your body - they sell this ridiculous thing called the AssKicker that attaches to the post of your chair for the same reason. It's so you can hear and feel the bass. I guess it makes it more intense that way?

I'll stick to headphones kthx.

Oh, wow. That's amazing full size. (It's good small, also.) I love Aisha's hair, by the way. I'm so glad you made it shorter.

And good grief do your employers need to get non-horrible remixed Christmas music! When I was at B&N at least we got to hear the Peanuts Christmas on a regular basis, which I'll listen to any time of year. :)

whoa hiya! :D I first found you via Comic Space (halls_of_whimsy) and then when I went to check out your website I came across this here LJ link (I'm not following you around I promise heh) Do you mind if I friend you? I've really been enjoying your comic and your artwork is lovely :)

Hey, thanks! :D I'll add you back.
